Obesity, Preconception Health, Pregnancy & Lactation: The Impact of Bariatric Surgery, Nutrition, & Exercise was held in Tarrytown on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, and attended by more than 360 professionals. This year's agenda focused on the implications of bariatric surgery and the effect of obesity on pregnancy, lactation and preconception health. Speakers also placed heavy emphasis on the need for proper diet and exercise to prevent obesity and co-related problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. This year's two keynote speakers were Dr. David A. Kessler, MD, Former Commissioner of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Jon R. Cohen, MD, Senior Advisor to New York State Governor David A. Paterson. Other guest speakers were, James F. Smith, Jr., MD, Diane M. Ashton, MD, MPH, and Ashutosh Kaul, MD.
