Healthy From Birth For Life

Healthy From Birth For Life is a social health marketing campaign designed and implemented by youth to engage their peers in healthy lifestyle behaviors.

The Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network is working hard to improve birth outcomes in Westchester County.  At Healthy From Birth For Life, we believe that people who are healthier at a young age will have healthier babies later in life.  Preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity is our way of improving future birth outcomes in Westchester County!

What is LHVPN?

Who:  You!  All youth ages 13-21 living in Peekskill or Mt. Vernon (zip code 10550) are invited to join us!

What:  Living a healthier lifestyle, and teaching others your age how to do the same! At HFBFL, each workshop is dedicated to a different topic, such as eating right, staying active, and the harmful effects of diabetes and obesity on birth outcomes.  After learning about these topics, we put our heads together to come up with ways to educate others in our community.  Events that we’ve hosted so far include dance marathons, walk-a-thons, health fairs, fundraiser dinners and more!  Click HERE to check out our photo gallery of past events!

When:  Now!  There are three sessions of HFBFL each year- fall, spring and summer.  Each session meets once a week for a period of approximately 13 weeks.

Where:  Mt. Vernon and Peekskill, which have been identified as two high risk areas in Westchester County for poor birth outcomes.  Meetings are typically held at the Doles Center in Mt. Vernon, and at WCC in Peekskill.
